Monarchs bounce back in Elmira

On Friday night the Manchester Monarchs continued their road trip in Elmira against the Jackals. Doug Carr started in net for the Monarchs opposed by C.J. Motte in net for the Jackals. The Monarchs were looking for a bounce back win after losing their last three games.

The first period started with the Monarchs controlling the puck off the face-off as they started to make their way into the Jackals zone. They were pounding away on the Jackals goals and getting some great offensive chances. They broke through early off the stick of Maxim Kitsyn, assisted by Michael Boivin and Derek Arnold.

They continued to attack the Jackals’ net, trying to add to their lead. The jackals were able to put chances on Carr, but he was able to shut them down and keep the Monarchs ahead. Elmira’s Tyler Currier put the Monarchs on the power play when he went off for holding 6:50 into the first.

The Monarchs were able to convert with 10-seconds left on the power play to extend their lead to two. The goal was scored by Yann Sauve and assisted by Matt Leitner and Austin Block. The two continued to go back forth battling, but neither team gave up an inch and the score remained 2-0.

As the first period was winding down, the Monarchs scored again, this time it was Derek Arnold, assisted by Matt MacKenzie and Joe Diamond. But the Jackals answered back only 11-seconds later, when Tyler Currier scored, assisted by Daniel Gentzler.  The first period ended with Monarchs leading the Jackals 2-1 and the shots 17-12.

The Monarchs came back for the second period looking to get more separation from the Jackals. It didn’t take long for the Monarchs to score, it was Kitsyn again on the goal, assisted by Yann Sauve and Derek Arnold. Michael Boivin scored for the Monarchs just under two minutes later after picking off an Elmira clearing pass.

The Jackals were forced to replace Motte with their back-up goalie, Niklas Lundstrom.The two teams battled back and forth, but neither team could get an inch on either goalie. The second period ended with Monarchs leading 5-1 and the shots 32-23 for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs came back for the third period looking to hang on and snap their three game losing streak. The Monarchs scored again early in the third from Darik Angeli, assisted by Matt Leitner and Austin Block. They continued to battling back and forth, Carr was forced to make some his best of the game to keep the Monarchs in the lead.

The Monarchs were able to hang on for a 6-1 victory and the final shots 49-36 in favor of the Monarchs.

Third star Derek Arnold, he had a goal and an assist helping the Monarchs to victory. Second star Doug Carr, he stopped 35 of 36 shots to lead the Monarchs to victory. First star Yann Sauve, he had a goal and an assist to help the Monarchs snap their three game losing streak. The Monarchs will take on the Jackals again tomorrow night looking to start a winning streak.
