Mixed results for Bison heading into weekend set

BASINGSTOKE UK: The Bison had a mixed weekend of results from their past two outings.

Last Saturday, they enjoyed their first overtime win of the campaign with a 4-3 success over Streatham and then the following day they lost to Peterborough Phantoms 3-1.

In the first game of the weekend, the Bison were minus Scottish forward Liam Morris, so Lee Richardson from the Oxford City Stars was drafted into the line-up and can ice twice more for the team, due his age.

The Herd also gave a debut to 18-year-old defenceman Josh Kelly.

The Basingstoke-born and former Guildford junior played in Swindon last season and started this year in Sweden with IFK Osteraker J20, before returning to his home town team.

“I was impressed with what I saw from Josh from his first weekend with the team,” said Bison player/coach Ashley Tait.

In Kelly’s debut game the Herd had the better of the first 20 minutes as Russ Cowley and Richard Bordowski both scored.

The visitors turned the game on its head as Ziggy Beasley, Leigh Jamieson and Adam Wood all scored to make it 3-2 at the second intermission.

The Bison had the better of the final 20, as George Norcliffe tied the game up sending it to overtime.

The home side were penalised for a too many men during the extra five minutes, but killed it off and then Tait grabbed the winner.

The following night, the Bison once again could not find a way past Peterborough.

The Cambridgeshire scored once in the first 20 minutes from Tom Norton and then added a couple from Petr Stepanek and Nathan Pollard.

The third goal looked like it went through the side netting.

The Herd shut out the previous week in Bracknell, avoided the same fate two weeks on the row on the road, when Michal Klejna scored two minutes from time.

“I think on Saturday we found a way to win the game and on Sunday I cannot fault the shift the boys put in, but we came up short,”

This weekend, the Herd have a tough looking game against visiting Swindon on Saturday and then travel to MK to take on the Thunder, who they have already beaten this season.

Morris is a doubt for both games as is fellow forward Hallam Wilson who failed to finish the Streatham game.
