Missouri Earns Second Win in Two Nights Against Visiting Cincinnati

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Missouri Mavericks swept their two-game weekend series against the Cincinnati Cyclones with a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.  The win moves the Mavericks perfect home record at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena to 10-0-0-0.

The Missouri Mavericks controlled majority of the puck possession through the first twenty minutes of play, making it difficult for the Cyclones to make any real attempts on Parker Milner in goal for the Mavs.  It was not until the final two minutes of the period that David deKastrozza made the first mark on the scoresheet, notching his third goal of the season at 18:00 with the help of defensemen Pat Cullity and Bryce Aneloski.

Midway through the second frame, Seth Ambroz threw a couple punches at Sebastien Sylvestre after he made a shot on the Cincinnati net just after a whistle was blown on the ice.  Ambroz was assessed a roughing penalty, while Sylvestre was sent to the box for unsportsmanlike conduct.  Rookie forward Colin Markisonscored just seconds into the resulting 4-on-4 situation, giving the Mavs a 2-0 lead aided by Trevor Ludwig andTanner Fritz.

Mavs’ leading scorer, Tyler Barnes, expanded Missouri’s lead 3-0 at the tail-end of the period, scoring at 17:54.  Carter Verhaeghe and Rocco Carzo were credited with the helpers on Barnes’ thirteenth goal of the season.

The Cyclones came storming back into the game in the third period, scoring back-to-back goals to come within one of the Mavericks.  Seth Ambroz scored the first tally for Cincinnati with the help of Andrew Yogan at 6:10.  Then at 14:41 Cody Carlson brought the score to 3-2, assisted by Steve Weinstein.

Parker Milner held strong between the pipes for Missouri for the remainder of regulation, stopping a total of twenty-nine shots through sixty minutes of play.

The Mavericks close their weekend home stand tomorrow afternoon when they host the Quad City Mallards at 4:05p.m. at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.  The first 1,500 fans (age 15 & older) will receive an adult jersey giveaway upon entrance, doors open at 6:00p.m.
