Minnesota Wild right wing prospects

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Continuing our look at the top five prospects at each position, we move on to the Minnesota Wild’s right wing prospects. Here again, the Wild are weak. The old Doug Risebrough led regime continually chose players who did not fit the style of play being used in Minnesota. As those prospects moved through the system, they changed their games through coaching and practice to better fit the system being played by the team that drafted them. In the process, many high picks began to play games outside their style of play and lost the edge that got them drafted in the first place. Right wing is by far one of the weakest positions within the organization and will continue to be for the near future. Their best prospect at this position, Alexander Fallstrom, was traded this season to the Boston Bruins in the deal for Chuck Kobasew. As the organization sits right now, here are the top five right wing prospects: 1) Jean-Michael Daoust – Houston Aeros (AHL) Doust has moved past Danny Irmen as the top RW prospect in the system with a career season. He currently has 42 points (17G, 25A) in his third full season in the AHL. 2) Danny Irmen – Houston Aeros Irmen has long been the RW in waiting for the Wild. While never given any extended NHL time, Irmen does not seem to be the answer as Wild GM Chuck Fletcher preferred to make trades to fill a line up decimated with injuries rather than call Irmen up. Having just 26 points (11 G, 15A) in 56 games does not do much to help his cause, either. 3) Carson McMillan – Houston Aeros Continuing a disturbing trend with Wild prospects, McMillan was handed a four game suspension recently for a bad hit. Mc Millan has never been shy about his physical game, and it is likely the reason he is moving well through the Wild system. In his first season in the AHL since leaving the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, he has just five points (2G, 3A). He started slow with the Hitmen as well, and four years later finished with 72 points (31G, 42A). 4) Jon DiSalvatore – Houston Aeros Currently sitting third on the Aeros roster with 40 points (18G, 22A), DiSalvatore is a journeyman AHL player. In his seventh AHL season, he has put up respectable numbers, topping out at 67 points back in the 2005-06 campaign with the Peoria Rivermen. DiSalvatore is not a long term answer for the Wild. 5) Duncan Milroy – Houston Aeros Milroy makes this list for the very simple reason that he is the last member of the organization to be listed as a RW. He is not a long term answer. This is his sixth AHL season, after spending last season in Germany. None of his seasons have ever been remarkable.
