Miller’s last second goal helps send Rangers to 2-1 win over Stars n OT Rangers are 5-0-2 in their last seven

In New York, you might have tempted to leave your seat, or perhaps switch to Futurama on Adult Swim as the time was winding down in Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.

If you did, and you know who you are, you would have missed K’Andre Miller’s literal last second goal that tied the match for the Rangers with the Dallas Stars at 1-1.

“Scrum in front of the net, puck popped right to me,” Miller said. “I honestly thought ‘Troch’ (Vincent Trocheck) was going to take it right off my stick, but he did a good job. I was coming down Main Street and I just tried to get a puck on net.”

The goal came with 0.6 seconds left on the game clock.

“My mom texted me today and she was giving me a lot of motivation, so it’s pretty easy for myself to focus up for these types of games when I have support like that from her,” Miller said. “I think the biggest thing would be just that she loves me and she’s proud of me and she’s there even though she’s not there. Games like these, I know she’s not in the stands, but I feel her presence and I think that’s everything in a mother-son relationship. It’s a special bond.”

Igor Shesterkin made 24 saves in the Rangers win, it was his 20th of the campaign.

The Rangers improved to 24-12-7.

Adam Fox won it for the Rangers off a scramble sequence in front of the Dallas net with Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad.

The puck came out to Fox on the right side, he slid right and cut left to the slot and wristed the winner home at 1:16 of the extra session.

“I looked up and I know ‘Otter'(Jake Oettinger) is a pretty big goalie and I didn’t see much there, so I just took it to the backhand and tried to put it on the far side,” Fox said. “I just came in there late and benefited from it.”

Dallas dropped to 25-11-7.

“Our execution, our attention to detail was where it needs to be playing against a good team on the road,” Stars coach Peter DeBoer said. “The other night against the Islanders I didn’t think it was for 60 minutes and Jake had to bail us out. Tonight, I thought we gave Jake a much better chance to win the game because our details and execution were a lot better.”

Miller has a five-game active point streak.

“It’s something I’ve been trying to implement in my game over the years,” Miller said. “I know what kind of player I can be. I know I can produce and shut down at the same time. It’s just a matter of believing in that and bringing that same attitude every game.”

Oettinger made 29 saves in the Stars loss.

“It’s pretty tough,” Oettinger said. “It’s hard. It [stinks]. I’ll probably be thinking about that for a while.”
