In Vancouver Wednesday night, Ryan Miller made 36 saves as the Canucks held on for a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
“The first period was nice,” Miller said referring to the six shots he faced in the opening frame.
Miller was working on a shutout until Tanner Pearson scored with less than four minutes to go in the game.
“We were above the puck. They didn’t have too much as far as odd-man rushes,” Miller said. “It was a clean game as far as that goes, and that’s the kind of game you have to have to beat L.A.”
Loui Eriksson and Henrik Sedin were the Canucks goal scorers.
The Canucks had only 20 shots on goal for the game as the match flipped after the first period.
Peter Budaj made 18 saves in the loss.
“We took a couple penalties, they scored on the first one on a lost draw, so you are chasing it right away,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “We got stronger as the game went on, that’s for sure.”

Vancouver had only eight shots on goal over the final two periods and one was form Sedin who potted a goal off a deflection just 23 seconds into the middle frame.
“Their winning goal was pretty lucky,” LA’s Drew Doughty said. “I thought we deserved a little better in that game but you have to play well for 60 minutes in this League to win games.”
Lucky or not the goal counted and the Kings’ lack of early offense was a key in the loss.
“They came at us a little bit more, but I didn’t think they had an awful lot of great chances. They had lots from the outside, but I thought we did a good job protecting the home plate,” Vancouver head coach Willie Desjardins
