Miller, Henrik Sedin continue Ducks OT woes in 3-2 win

With 59 seconds left in overtime, Henrik Sedin scored to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks Friday night.

The Ducks were playing the second of two road games in two nights and their legs were looking more like concrete than engines.

“They came in on back-to-back [games] and we wanted to take advantage,” Sedin said. “We didn’t get off to a great start but I thought we took over halfway through the first and played even with them. A good comeback win.”

The Ducks had enough energy early on to build a 2-0 lead off goals form Ryan Getzlaf on a penalty kill early the first period and Rickard Rakell less than a minute into the middle frame.

Loui Eriksson cut the deficit in half on the power play later in the second period.

With Anaheim losing their legs late in regulation, Jack Skille knotted the game at 2-2.

Ryan Miller made 24 saves in getting the win.

“As long as we’re close, we feel like we’re in it,” Miller said. “The boys chipped away. It’s a really nice win.”

The Ducks remain winless in overtime and are 0-7 so far.

“We [stink] at 3-on-3,” Getzlaf said. “Me and Cam ran into each other trying to keep our speed to make sure we could get back, and away they go. Their skilled guys made a good play.”

Anaheim was whistled seven times in the game and that did not help the bench recover between shifts.

“We were in a position to win and we took too many careless penalties,” Getzlaf said.

The Ducks had only one power play on the night.

“We took too many penalties tonight. Power plays were 7-1. It’s hard to win on the road doing that, especially in a back-to-back. Guys get taxed all game long,” Getzlaf said.
