Miller, Ducks stop Sens, 3-0

The Anaheim Ducks have needed some kind spark with several of their stars on the injured list.

On Wednesday night, they got a spark from Ryan Miller who made 29 saves in his 40th career NHL shutout, 3-0, over the visiting Ottawa Senators.

“We understood the stakes and we knew coming home would be difficult,” Miller said. “I just wanted to get off to a good start and get through the first period. We seemed to build confidence in some situations and I thought we had a good second period.”

Newcomer Adam Henrique is proving to be a brilliant pick up as he struck for two goals.

Ottawa’s loss pushed them to 1-8-1 in their last 10 games.

“You never know exactly what’s causing it and what’s going on,” Ottawa’s Erik Karlsson said. “When things aren’t going your way, you try and look for answers that aren’t there. You try and get out of your comfort zone and do different things, but at the end of the day you need to do the things you’re good at and I think that we’re starting to get to that.”

Ondrej Kase had the Ducks other goal.

“It was more like a business-like attitude we took toward the hockey game. We knew we were playing a team that was going to come in here desperate. We had to manage the puck properly and do some things more consistently. Tonight, we were much more on our toes and much more committed to doing the little things,” Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle said of his team’s approach to the game.

The win moved Anaheim to 12-11-6 on the campaign.

“We needed to jump on them right away,” Henrique said. “I thought we came out and we got into our game with a lot of chances.”

Craig Anderson made 20 saves in the loss as the Sens dropped to 9-11-6 on the season.

“That was quite an effort there. The guys gave everything they had. It was a terrific bench. Players sticking together and paying the price. We knew this was a big, tough, physical team. We met that physicality right on, right from the beginning,” the Senators’ head coach Guy Boucher said after the loss.
