Miller, Ducks shut out Canucks, 5-0 Vermette scored 5000th goal in Ducks franchise history

In a methodical effort, the Anaheim Ducks shut out the Canucks, 5-0, Tuesday in Vancouver.

This one was not close.

Ryan Miller picked up his second shutout of the season and made 31 saves to get it over his former club.

“It means a lot to me,” Miller said. “Coming up to Vancouver was a big point in my life, my wife’s life. My son was born here. I enjoyed the people here. It was a fun night.”

Ryan Getzlaf stayed hot with a goal and three points on the night.

The Ducks are 5-1-0 on their last six games.

Rickard Rakell, Adam Henrique, Antoine Vermette, and Derek Grant all struck for goals in the win.

“It didn’t feel like a 5-0 hockey game,” Canucks head coach Travis Green told reporters. “In the second period, we spent the majority of the period in their zone, but we’ve got to score. We’ve got to find a way to get a goal.”

It may not have felt that way from the bench but his Canucks were dismantled in the loss and their quality scoring chances were rare.

“We have some guys just back in the lineup. We’re getting up to speed and they look really good, so it’s nice to get the win,” Miller said of the Ducks.

The win pushed Anaheim to 19-14-8.

Anders Nilsson got the start for the Canucks and looked lost for much of his time on the ice; he was relieved in the third period after making just 15 saves on 19 shots.

“I’m not stopping as many shots as I did before,” Nilsson said. “I’ll keep practicing and working hard on every detail and will work my way out of this.”

Jacob Markstrom mopped up and yielded one goal.

“We have to bear down here or the season is going to slip away,” Vancouver’s Erik Gudbranson said.

That’s an ominous statement and one that portends trouble ahead for the Canucks.

“We’re battling and doing everything we can, but it’s very tough when you’re not scoring goals,” Henrik Sedin said after the loss that dropped the club to 16-19-5.
