Annapolis-MD: The 41st Crab Pot Tournament took place this weekend at the United States Naval Academies McMullen Arena. The consolation game featured the host Navy Midshipmen and the University of Maryland Terrapins. It was the Midshipmen coming out on top in a game that would be decided in overtime.
Maryland jumped out to a quick lead with just two minutes gone in the first. It was Patrick Harvey scoring with assists from Nick Keppler and Nathan Miller. That goal was the only scoring in the period that saw Navy fire 19 shots on goal, while Maryland put 11 shots on net.
The second period saw more action as Maryland scored at 2:50 to increase their lead. It was Thomas Murphy scoring a short handed goal assisted by Nate Hefner. John Scaccia of Navy cut into the lead ,scoring at 6:54Â with an assist from Alexander Vandenberg. With just 4.9 seconds left, it was Luke Turk evening the score with assists from Matthew Stamler and Andrew Douglas. It was Navy again outshooting Maryland 19-8.
Navy’s Hyo Jun Baek set up Derek Golembrosky at 12:26 of the third to give the Midshipmen their first lead of the game on a short handed goal. Just over a minute later at 13:31, it was Clark LeDane of Maryland thying the game on a power play goal, with an assist coming from Zach Arden. It was Maryland outshooting Navy 16-11 in the third.
Jeffrey Wu of Navy scored 1:25 into the five minute, three on three overtime period, with an assist from Matthew Stamler. Maryland’s goaltending duties were handled by Travis Danko, who made 46 saves on 50 shots. Navy’s Luke Markus stopped 32 of 35 shots.
