Midshipmen drop season opener to NYU, 4-3

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – On Friday night at McMullen arena in Annapolis, the Navy Midshipmen lost a tight game to the NYU Violets, 4 – 3.

NYU, a D2 team and 2015 ACHA National Champions opened the scoring at 1:48 of the first period with a goal from Michael Conslato who was assisted by John Kowaleski.

Navy got on the board at 12:23 in the first with an unassisted goal by Jack O’Hear. NYU gained momentum towards the end of the 1st with goals at 19:28 and 19:44. img_1754

The goals were scored by Connor Finocchio and Mason Gallegos from Keaton Baum.

The second period belonged to Navy, as they scored early at 2:46 and late, at 19:09. Navy goals were scored by Luke Turk from Hyo Jun Baek and Michael Burk from  Jack O’Hear and Matthew Harrigan.

The second period saw some penalty killing prowess by NYU who were 2 men down for an extended period of time.

The only goal of the third period at 13:47 scored by Mason Gallegos, his second of the game, from Keaton Baum, proved to be the game winner.

Luke Markus was in goal for Navy making 22 saves on 26 shots.

Adam Salisbury was the winning goalie with 20 saves on 23 shots. Navy starts their conference play this evening versus Villanova.
