Michel returns to Royals defensive corps

READING, PA – The Reading Royals have signed defenseman Rob Michel to a contract for the 2020-21 season. Michel topped Reading blue liners last season with eight goals while adding 14 assists in 51 games while amassing a plus-17 rating, which ranked second on the team.

Michel scored six of his eight goals in the final month of the season, starting with a strike on February 8th versus Wheeling.

Over four seasons at the University of Maine, Michel totaled 53 points (17 goals-36 n assists) in 137 career games. The native of Camillus, New York served as the Black Bears captain in 2018-19 and signed with the American Hockey League’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms following the conclusion of the season.

“Rob was one of our most improved players last season and one of our top defensemen,” Royals Head Coach Kirk MacDonald said. “We can trust him to be responsible in our end, move the puck well and be a threat in the offensive zone. Having him return for a second year will give him a chance to take that next leap.”
