CHICAGO – The United States Hockey League today announced the CCM Hockey player awards for the 27th week of the 2014-15 USHL regular season.
Winners include Marc Michaelis of the Green Bay Gamblers and Seamus Malone of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, named co-recipients of CCM Forward of the Week; Hayden Shaw of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, named CCM Defenseman of the Week; and Art Brey of the Sioux Falls Stampede, selected as CCM Goaltender of the Week.
Marc Michaelis, F, Green Bay Gamblers: The forward put up seven points (5g, 2a) to help the Gamblers win two of three contests during the week. He scored a goal in Wednesday’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Bloomington Thunder. Michaelis then had a career night as he scored four goals and dished out an assist in Friday’s 5-3 win against the Lincoln Stars. It was the first four-goal game in the USHL this season and first for a Gamblers player since Anders Lee did so in the 2010 playoffs. He scored the four goals in three different ways – power play (2), even strength, and shorthanded. His fourth goal was both the first shorthanded and first game-winning goal of his USHL career. The 19-year-old native of Mannheim, Germany now has 14 goals through 28 games this season with Green Bay. He is committed to play college hockey at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Seamus Malone, F, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The 18-year-old tallied six points (4g, 2a) and a plus-six rating over three games to help the Saints earn five of six points in the standings. He produced a USHL career high five-point game (3g, 2a) in Friday’s 8-1 win against the Madison Capitols. It was his second consecutive game with a hat trick after scoring three goals just six days earlier, and it was also the third straight game he tallied the game-winning goal. His first goal of the night was the 50th of his USHL career, and he also finished with a game high plus-five rating. After being scoreless on Saturday against Cedar Rapids, Malone scored another goal in Sunday’s 5-4 shootout loss to Madison. He is 11th in USHL scoring with 55 points (24g, 31a) through 54 games and leads the League with a plus-28 rating. The Naperville, Illinois native is a product of the Chicago Mission youth hockey program and is committed to the University of Wisconsin.
Hayden Shaw, D, Dubuque Fighting Saints: The defenseman earns his second consecutive weekly honor after recording six points (2g, 4a) over three games for the Saints. He scored a goal and dished out an assist in Friday’s 8-1 win against Madison. He then produced his third straight multi-point game with three (1g, 2a) in Saturday’s 4-1 victory against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. His goal proved to be the game-winner. Shaw then closed out the weekend with an assist in Sunday’s shootout loss to Madison, extending his point streak to six games (3g, 8a). The 18-year-old is currently third in scoring among USHL defensemen with 41 points (5g, 36a) over 42 games this season. He also ranks 11th in the League with a plus-21 rating. The product of Woodbury High School in Minnesota is committed to play college hockey at the University of North Dakota.
Art Brey, G, Sioux Falls Stampede: It was an eventful week for the goaltender who committed to play college hockey at St. Lawrence University and then went on to lead the Stampede to a pair of victories, posting a 0.50 goals-against-average and .978 save percentage. He stopped all 18 shots he faced in Thursday’s 4-0 win against the Fargo Force to record his second shutout of the season. Brey then made 27 saves in Friday’s 3-1 victory over the Bloomington Thunder to record the 48th win of his USHL career. The Yorba Linda, California native has allowed just two goals over his last four appearances for the Stampede, posting a 0.55 GAA and .976 SV% over that span. During his nine total victories this season, he has allowed more than one goal just once. He currently ranks fourth among USHL goaltenders with a 2.40 GAA.
