Hoping to protect their home-ice advantage, the Eagles came out strong but the Komets were just as determined and managed to score the first goal on the power play when Daniel Maggio deflected a pass by Eagles Goaltender Joe Cannata at the 16:34 mark of the opening period.

Colorado evened things up exactly two minutes later with the first of Joly’s goals. This one, the power play goal, was assisted by defenseman Jake Marto 18:34 of period one.

Another power play goal from Fort Wayne at 3:49 of the middle frame from Gabriel Desjardins put the visitors back on top 2-1.

Joly tied the game up again 10:40 into the third period with an unassisted, short-handed goal and the 2-2  score held for the remaining regulation time.

Colorado successfully killed the penalty and shortly thereafter Joly, with a nifty assist from J.C. Beaudin, wrapped up the game with a hat trick for the final score of 3-2 and a one game to none lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game two is Sunday, May 13 at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland Co. Game time is 7:05 P.M.
