Melbourne Ice take three points from Mustangs

MELBOURNE, Australia – Melbourne Derby 3.0 Melbourne Mustangs hosted the Melbourne Ice for the first derby played on a Sunday.

It could be an interesting game as this is the first game that Mitch Humphries will be dressing for the Mustangs from ending his contract with Melbourne Ice.

The puck was dropped and both teams were putting it all on the line including their bodies.

With six minutes to go in the first there was some pushing and shoving that was in front of the Melbourne Ice goalie, Jaden Pine-Murphy.

Less than two minutes later the Ice scored through Backman and also responded again through Joey Hughes. The end of the first had the score Mustangs 0 – 2 Melbourne Ice.

Melbourne Ice had control of the puck for the majority of the first, lets see if the game continues in the same manner for the next two periods. The same intensity continued into the second and the third periods. With some more scuffles both teams were giving the same amount of pushing and shoving and cheap shots behind play. Both teams had to keep their emotions at bay or it could have boiled over.

Both teams had control of the puck it was the Melbourne Ice defence that was too strong for the Mustangs to get the goals on net. The Mustangs defence at times was not there and left the goalie to his own devices.

This derby had a lot of emotion which was a far sight better than the last derby as there was was no excitement in the game and a little lackluster. The final score did not reflect how the game was played with the Melbourne Ice running away with the game 6-2.
