Brock McGinn signed a four-year, $11 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday. It has an average annual value of $2.75 million.
The 27-year-old forward scored 13 points (eight goals, five assists) in 37 regular-season games and four points (three goals, one assist) in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Carolina Hurricanes last season.
“He plays a real inside game,” Penguins general manager Ron Hextall said. “He’s got really good energy. Physical player. Plays the same way every night. We just really valued the player, but we also valued the intangibles that he brings on a nightly basis and some of the stuff that he’s going to bring into our locker room.”
Selected by Carolina in the second round (No. 47) of the 2012 NHL Draft, McGinn has scored 106 points (51 goals, 55 assists) in 345 regular-season games and 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 34 playoff games.
The Penguins also signed forward Evan Rodrigues to a one-year, $1 million contract, and forward Dominik Simon to a one-year, two-way contract that will pay him $750,000 if he’s in the NHL.
Rodrigues scored 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 35 regular-season games and had one assist in two playoff games with Pittsburgh last season.
Simon did not have a point in 11 games with the Calgary Flames last season after signing a one-year, $700,000 contract as a free agent Oct. 22, 2020. He had spent the previous five seasons with the Penguins.
