Peoria, IL – – Call it the Tale of Two Goalies.

Peter Di Salvo in his first start for the Macon Mayhem since being cut by the Peoria Rivermen earlier in the week. Tyler Parks in his first action since a long call-up to the ECHL.

3,169 fans in attendance during a blizzard for Hockey Fights Cancer night at Peoria’s Carver Arena.

It wasn’t all that pretty.

It took overtime and nine goals to decide the contest, neither side looking like world-beaters for any stretch of time. In the end, Macon pocketed the win with a 5-4 OT decision.

Peoria, first place in the SPHL, increased it’s lead over second place Pensacola to seven points with five games remaining. They certainly didn’t play like a first place team in these two games against Macon, though.

The first four goals in the game were power play goals. Macon took a lead in the first period on goal by Dylan Denomme.

Peoria scored a pair i the second period to take a brief 2-1 lead with scored from Mike Gurtler and Joe Widmar. The second period ended with the score tied when Seimer found twine.

In the third period, Daniel Gentzler and Ian Ecklund scored for the Mayhem. Gurtler and Bruce tallied for the Rivermen and it went to the overtime period.

Parks looked rusty in his first start since coming back from ECHL call-up, stopping 22 of 27 shots. Di Salvo was good enough, stopping 28 of 32 shots on goal.

Peoria will host Evansville Sunday afternoon. Evansville having just bested second-place Pensacola on back-to-back games.
