ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Missouri Mavericks shut out the Alaska Aces 3-0 on Saturday night at Sullivan Arena, bringing their season to 1-1-0-0 with one (1) more matchup against the Aces on Sunday afternoon to close out the three-game weekend series.
Goaltender Josh Robinson got the start in Anchorage, AK for the Mavs with Parker Milner having been recalled by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers— the Mavericks American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate — following last evenings matchup. Robinson made thirty (30) saves in the shutout game, his first appearance between the pipes in the 2015-16 ECHL season. Taran Kozun dressed as Missouri’s back-up net minder.
Josh Holmstrom opened the scoreboard for the Mavericks at 5:48 of the first period, with an assist credited to Colin Markison. Holmstrom doubled the Mavericks lead at 9:46 with a second tally with the help of Markison and rookie Tanner Fritz. Fritz’s secondary assist earned him his first professional career point.
The Mavericks continued their offensive drive in the second period, when Jesse Root scored on Aces net minder, Steven Summerhays, for a 3-0 lead. Defenseman Kyle Burroughs, and Fritz were credited with the helpers.
The Mavs carried their 3-0 lead through the remainder of regulation, battling a frustrated Aces team in a game that quickly became a penalty-wrought contest. Missouri was able to hold their own and lock in their first ‘W’ of the 2015-16 ECHL regular season.
