Mavs drop 1-0 decision to Oilers

NDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Kansas City Mavericks (11-5-1-0) were blanked by the Tulsa Oilers (13-2-2-0) Friday, dropping a 1-0 decision in a divisional battle.

Here are tonight’s Postgame Snapshots:

Wrong Side of History: The Mavericks came out on the wrong side of history Friday in the 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Oilers. The contest marked the first time in series history that Tulsa held Kansas City off the boards, tonight the 90th all-time meeting between the two clubs. It was the first time the Mavericks dropped a 1-0 game since Nov. 30, 2016 against Allen.

Halford’s Solid Game: Overshadowed by a shutout on the other end of the ice was a good performance from Ben Halford, who turned away 31 pucks – two shy of his career high – in 32 shots faced in the contest. The only puck that found its way past ‘Big Ben’ came from Steven Kaunisto 8:39 into the game, a shot that went through traffic, hit off the post to Halford’s right and in.

Perfect No More: Friday’s game was the first home loss of the season for the Mavericks, who came into tonight’s game 7-0 at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Mavericks will look to get back in the win column and snap a three-game skid tomorrow night, same place and same time against Tulsa.

The Bright Sides: The Mavericks’ depth took a hit over the week, losing Mark Cooper and Corey Durocher to injury, Matt Robertson to a leave of absence and Willie Raskob to call-up to Stockton. They did get back veteran center Joey Sides, who had been out of the lineup since the team’s trip to Rapid City in October. Sides had some jump tonight but figures to be more comfortable out on the rink tomorrow now with a game under his belt.
