INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Kansas City Mavericks (13-5-1-1) dominated the Allen Americans (6-17-0-2) en route to a 6-2 win Friday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
Here are Friday’s Postgame Snapshots.
Scoring In Bunches: The Mavericks were able to put a stranglehold on this one after a scoreless first by lighting the lamp three times in a span of 4:04 midway through the second – goals from David Dziurzynski (his first of the game), Cliff Watson and Rocco Carzo. With the score 4-1 entering the third, the Mavericks again scored in quick succession, Willie Raskob and David Dziurzynski’s second just 1:08 apart.
Dizzy Celebrates Milestone: David Dziurzynski celebrated his 500th professional hockey game in style with two goals – a season high. The elder of the Dziurzynski brothers reached the milestone by playing in 26 NHL games, 387 in the AHL, 37 in the ECHL and 50 in the DEL.
RC4 Hits 4 Again: Rocco Carzo matched his season high of four points with a goal and three helpers on the night, the captain having a hand in each of the first three goals of the game. His score came on a breakaway goal on the heels of him serving a two-minute minor, C.J. Eick feeding him on an outlet pass to spring Carzo free out of the penalty box. Carzo beat Jeremy Brodeur five-hole for a 3-1 lead.
Special Teams Excellence: If you read Friday morning’s game day report, you knew that the Mavericks have enjoyed success against Allen’s penalty kill all season – and Friday was no different as the Mavs went 3-for-5 on the man-advantage en route to a 6-2 win. Kansas City was also strong on the PK in this one, matching this season’s high-water mark by killing a season-high seven penalties in a perfect 7-for-7 effort.
The Mavericks and Americans battle once again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in the annual Star Wars Night.
