There was a Steve Mason sighting in the Winnipeg Jets’ net Wednesday night in Los Angeles; Mason made 38 saves as the Jets defeated the Kings, 2-1, at the Staples Center.
Patrik Laine struck for the game-winner late in the middle frame and Mason did the rest to hold the lead.
“My first two years, we’ve been struggling with the consistency,” the Jets’ Nikolaj Ehlers said. “I think that finally we’ve found a way to play well consistently. Lose a game, bounce back right away.”
Adam Lowry also scored for Winnipeg who improved to 13-5-3.
“As important as probably Laine’s goal was, the game-winner, the blocked shots and some pretty fine penalty-killing were just as important,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said.
The Kings’ lone goal came from Tyler Toffoli on the power play.
The Kings are in a true tail spin having lost six of their seven.
“We’ve just got to keep working as a group,” Toffoli said. “We’ve got to find it within and nobody’s going to help us. We’ve got to do it ourselves.”
LA dropped to 12-8-2 with the loss.

Jonathan Quick made 25 saves in the loss.
Quick has own issues with skids as he has his last six starts.
But he is also not getting a great deal of goal support in those losses.
“You’ve got to bear down to score, and you’ve got to bear down to deny opportunities,” Kings head coach John Stevens said. “Sometimes it’s a fine line between the difference of winning and losing. That’s a good hockey team, and we’ve got to just dig down a little bit on both sides of the puck.”
