The Toronto Marlies wrapped up their eight-game road trip with a 4-3 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday night. The Marlies are now 5-1-0-0 against Central Division opponents and 2-0-0-0 against the Griffins this season.
In the first period, both teams had their fair share of chances. But it was Jon Martin who managed to get one past Marlies goaltender Erik Källgren late in the frame, to give the home side a 1-0 advantage through the first 20 minutes.
In the second, the Marlies responded. Alex Steeves got the visitors on the board just 27 seconds into the period with a power-play goal. Just under a minute later, Filip Král showed off his hand-eye coordination with a goal of his own. But, the lead did not last long, as both Ryan Murphy and Brett McKenzie scored for Grand Rapids, once again giving them the lead heading into the intermission.
In the third period, Semyon Der-Arguchintsev added another power-play tally for the visitors to tie the game at three. Then, with just under five minutes remaining in the third, Antti Suomela fired one past Calvin Pickard to give the Marlies the lead. Erik Källgren stood tall in the Marlies crease, stopping 21 of the 24 shots he faced.
