The Toronto Marlies topped the Abbotsford Canucks 5-3 on Tuesday night. Abbotsford currently leads the season series two games to one.
In the first, Curtis Douglas capitalized on an Abbotsford turnover, scoring his ninth goal of the season. Nick Robertson followed that up with not one, but two goals before the period was over, giving the visitors at 3-0 lead at the intermission.
In the second, Abbotsford managed to get one back as John Stevens scored his 14th of the year. But, Alex Steeves restored the Marlies three goal lead late in the frame on the power-play, making it 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.
In the final frame, Sheldon Dries scored two on the power-play to bring the Canucks within one, but in the final minutes, Alex Steeves found the back of an empty net for his 20th of the year, securing the win for the visitors. Steeves is the first Marlies rookie since Connor Brown to record 20 goals in a single season.
Making his AHL debut tonight for the Marlies, Talor Joseph was fantastic. He stopped 34 of the 37 shots he faced, earning himself his first pro victory. He was also credited with an assist on Steeves’ empty net goal, securing his first AHL point as well.
