The Marlies visited the Providence Bruins Friday night for their second game of a three-game road swing. After dropping their previous two contests, the Marlies were looking to rebound and get back in the win column. Unfortunately, they only managed one goal against one of the top netminders in the league as the Bruins topped the Marlies 3-1.
Trevor Moore scored the opening goal just past the halfway point of the first period, sneaking a wrist shot over the far shoulder of Zane McIntyre. Calle Rosen and Marlies’ goaltender Michael Hutchinson assisted on Moore’s 21stof the season. The Marlies held a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
The Bruins added two unanswered goals in the second period, starting with a shorthanded marker at 7:18 from Steven Kampfer. Lee Stempniak added the second and final goal of the frame at 12:33. The Marlies trailed by one heading into the final frame.
Anton Blidh added the Bruins’ third goal at 5:41 of the final frame with an awkward shot that beat Hutchinson five-hole.
The Marlies (25-17-5-3) are back in action tonight and looking to snap a two-game losing skid when they visit the Providence Bruins (26-17-6-1). The Marlies pressed in the final minutes and had a late power play opportunity but were unable to climb back from the two-goal deficit.
