Marlies Edge Crunch in Overtime

For the second night in a row, the Marlies and Crunch required an overtime decision in Syracuse. This time, the Marlies picked up the extra point, edging the Crunch 3-2.

The Marlies were able to capitalize on an early power play opportunity and solve Crunch goaltender Eddie Pasquale tonight after he earned the shutout in last night’s game. Trevor Moore notched the opening goal on the power play at 5:21 of the first period, burying a rebound that came loose in front of the Syracuse net. Jeremy Bracco and Rasmus Sandin assisted on Moore’s power play goal. At 12:43 Syracuse leading rookie, Alex Barre-Boulet evened things up with his 25thof the season. The score remained tied heading into the first intermission.

Barre-Boulet added a second goal, beating Kasimir Kaskisuo with a tip in front early in the second period to give the home team the lead. Late in the frame, Pierre Engvall knotted the score again, sneaking a shot five-hole on Pasquale. Dmytro Timashov and Michael Carcone assisted on Engvall’s 15thof the season.

Neither team broke the deadlock in the third period, sending the game into overtime for the second time in as many nights. Syracuse’s Ben Thomas was handed a holding penalty just 1:50 into the extra frame, giving the Marlies an opportunity with a 4-on-3. A minute into the power play, Rasmus Sandin got called for hooking to send things back to 3-on-3. At 3:18, Dmytro Timashov let a shot fly from the point and it floated right past Pasquale to seal a 3-2 overtime win for the Marlies. Engvall picked up the lone assist on the game winner.
