Jeremy Bracco opened the scoring just 31 seconds into the first period, burying a sweet feed from Timothy Liljegren. Sam Jardine picked up the secondary assist on Bracco’s 17thof the season. The Senators answered back just over a minute later as Jim O’Brien beat Hutchinson with his first goal of the season. The Marlies outshot the Senators 11-6 in the opening 20 minutes, but the deadlock continued through the remainder of the frame.
Marlies goaltender Michael Hutchinson did not return to the game for precautionary reasons and Kasimir Kaskisuo jumped in to start the second period. Vincent LoVerde put the Marlies in front at 9:53 of the second period, wiring home a wrist shot from the slot. Rasmus Sandin and Adam Brooks assisted on the goal. The Senators responded at 15:30 as Vitaly Abramov scored his 14thof the season to even the score 2-2. The Marlies converted on a power play opportunity late in the frame to restore their lead. Adam Brooks picked up the power play goal after finding the loose puck and banging it past Marcus Hogberg to give the Marlies a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame. Nicholas Baptiste and Jeremy Bracco assisted on Brooks’ 16thof the season.
The Senators pulled off the comeback in the third period, adding two goals and an empty-netter to seal a 5-3 win.
