The Marlies improved to 17-4-2-1 following a 4-1 win over the San Antonio Rampage.
Toronto came out firing on all cylinders and took an early two-goal lead to tilt the ice in their favour. Defenceman Kristians Rubins opened the scoring with his first AHL career goal at 1:23 of the first period. Ben Harpur assisted on the goal. At 5:35, Rich Clune extended the lead to 2-0 with his first goal of the season, finishing a cross-ice pass from Hudson Elynuik. Garrett Wilson had the secondary assist on the goal. The Marlies held their lead through the remainder of the first period.
The Rampage peppered Marlies goaltender, Joseph Woll with 16 shots in the second period as they looked to cut the deficit. Woll stood tall and made some key saves to preserve the Marlies lead heading into the final frame.
The visitors continued to put on the pressure in the third period and finally solved Woll at 15:26, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. The Marlies weren’t going to let that shift the momentum and Jeremy Bracco responded with a goal at 16:14 to restore a two-goal lead. Tyler Gaudet and Ben Harpur assisted on Bracco’s third of the season. Adam Brooks added an empty net goal at 18:33 to seal a 4-1 win for Toronto.
