Marlies Close Out Road Swing With a Win

The Toronto Marlies were in search of a win tonight as they wrapped up their three-game road trip in Springfield. From the opening whistle, it was obvious the Marlies were hungry as they looked to snap a three-game losing streak and head back home on a high note.

Dmytro Timashov notched the opening goal just 69 seconds into the opening frame after corralling a loose puck in front of Springfield’s net before firing home his sixth of the season. Calle Rosen and Gabriel Gagne assisted on the goal. The Marlies had 15 shots in the opening frame and held the Thunderbirds to only eight.

Springfield’s Thomas Jurco evened the score at 7:41 of the second period from Chris Wideman and Juho Lammikko. Penalties cost the Thunderbirds late in the frame as they committed three infractions in just under a minute and a half, giving the Marlies a two-man advantage. They capitalized twice on the ensuing power plays, with Jeremy Bracco netting the first power play goal to put the Marlies back in front. Bracco batted the puck out of mid-air into the back of the cage for his 15thof the season. Trevor Moore and Adam Brooks assisted on the goal. Less than a minute later, Brooks finished off a tic-tac-toe passing play for his 11thof the season to give the Marlies a two-goal cushion.

Despite a late push from the Thunderbirds the Marlies held on to their 3-1 lead to improve to 26-18-5-3.
