Markstrom, Canucks shut out Dallas, 6-0

In Dallas Sunday, the Stars laid an egg in a game they were never really in as the Vancouver Canucks posted a 6-0 win.

Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves to pick up the shutout win.

“A great 60-minute performance from every position,” Markstrom said. “We really played a good game and sacrificed ourselves to the puck. It could have been better, but it was good and the penalty kill was flawless. The guys really battled for 60 minutes. It was great.”

The Canucks put three on the board in the first period to take the Stars out of the game.

“I think the hardest-working team won,” Stars captain Jamie Benn said. “They jumped on us early. Three goals in the first is tough to come back from. We just didn’t have our game tonight.”

The 3-0 lead was courtesy of goals from Reid Boucher, Jake Virtanen, and Thomas Vanek.

“It was definitely nice to get a lead,” Canucks head coach Travis Green said. “And the type of goal. We talked about going to the net tonight and finding a greasy goal. It’s not easy to score in the League if you’re not willing to go to the net, and that was a good example.”

Bo Horvat and Erik Gudbranson also scored and Boucher added his second of the game for the six-goal offense.

“The concern for me is the odd-man rushes,” Dallas head coach Ken Hitchcock said. “We’re giving up more, which is a recipe for disaster. We tried to put the brakes on it and weren’t able to, so now we’ve paid the price and this should get everybody’s attention.”

Ben Bishop‘ got the start but was pulled after yielding four goals and making 16 saves.

“I think it was kind of a tale of two teams, a team that’s won five in a row and a team that’s lost four or five in a row and they came out hard, and once we got behind the eight ball there, kind of tough to get things rolling,” Bishop said. “Gotta give credit to them, they came out and they played really well in that first period and they took it to us, and you can’t take anybody lightly in this league.”

Kari Lehtonen relieved Bishop in the second period and made 19 saves/
