PENSACOLA, FL – In a night that saw a lot of highs and lows for the Fayetteville Marksmen, what we saw at the end of the night was a reMARKable comeback. Scoring three goals in the span of eight minutes, the Marksmen went on a tear to comeback from a three goal deficit. One of the Marksmen goals came from Captain Jake Hauswirth, his eighth of the season.
“We weren’t doing the little details that made us successful.” Hauswirth said about his team’s performance. “When we started doing the little details, things started to click. We did a great job as a team tonight, sticking together to find a way to win. (Nathan) Perry made huge saves for us, to give us the opportunity to comeback.”
Marksmen roo
kie Goaltender Nathan Perry made his SPHL debut last night. Perry had a rough start to his debut, allowing three goals to get by him early. Perry didn’t let that rough start get to him, recovering for a solid 29 save night.
“I think it took a bit to find my groove, as it’s been quite some time since I’ve played some games and it being my professional game definitely added some nerves too.” Perry said about his performance in net. “I think as the game went on and I settled in, I naturally found my game and look forward to building off of that. I’m hoping to get better and better with each game under my belt. The guys had a great third period too which made things much easier for me.”
After a really solid performance in the crease, Perry welcomes the chance to learn and better himself as he plays more.
“I think just adjusting to the style of hockey is the biggest thing I can learn from.” Perry said. “Compared to playing college hockey it’s a completely different game. So adjusting to that style change is what will help me have success in the future.”
Despite a valiant effort, it appeared the Ice Flyers engine stalled after their third goal. Jesse Kessler, Russell Jordan and Nathan Bruyere scored all three goals for the Ice Flyers in what would eventually be a losing effort. Brian Billett had almost an identical night in terms of saves as Nathan Perry. Billett was off by just one save, the one that ultimately ended the game.
