PENSACOLA, FL – After a stellar comeback that saw the Marksmen score four unanswered goals, they returned to the Pensacola Bay Center for round 2 against the Ice Flyers. Tonight ended with the same result as last night, with a Marksmen victory. Although the Marksmen pulled off a 1-0 victory, Pensacola brought their best.
Both sides had an impressive Goaltending battle, with only one goal being allowed. Marksmen Goaltender Dillon Kelley put up amazing numbers, stopping all 33 shots-on-goal and recording his second career shutout.
âIt was a hard fought game and both teams played great. Games like those are fun to be apart of and Iâm happy we were able to come out on top.â Kelley said. âThe guys played incredible in front of me, cleaning up the trash and blocking shots when needed. All around was a great effort as a team.â
Marksmen Captain Jake Hauswirth was the owner of the lone goal of the game, scoring his tenth goal of the season.
âMy Wingers Max Cook and Brian Bowen did a great job helping off the faceoff to win it back to (Kyle) Thacker.â Hauswirth said about his goal. âThen Thacker made a great pass to (Travis) Jeke, who let an absolute howitzer go. I was just fortunate to be standing in front to get a stick on it.â
With things tied at zero going into the third period, something needed to change and someone needed to step up and make a play.
âOur game plan going into the 3rd was the same game plan we started the game with. That was to play âMarksmen Hockeyâ which is bringing your head, heart and effort for 60 minutes.â
Despite a solid performance in net by Pensacola Goaltender Brian Billett, it was not in the cards for an Ice Flyers victory. The Marksmen left Pensacola on a five game win streak, they look to continue that streak against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs on Jan. 11th and 12th.
