In Toronto, the Boston Bruins came to town looking to run over the Maple Leafs on Saturday, instead, Toronto did something only one other club this season had, hang a loss on the Bruins. This one was 2-1 in tight affair.
Auston Matthews hit for a double in the Maple Leafs win, second came off the power play in the middle frame for a 2-1 lead.
Ilya Samsonov made 13 saves through two periods of play, he did not return to the ice after the second intermission. He was sidelined by an apparent knee injury.
Erik Kallgren made seven saves relief in the third period to preserve the win.
The Maple Leafs improved to 6-4-2.
Brad Marchand was the lone striker for the Bruins. He scored off a penalty shot after being tripped up on a breakaway.
It was Marchand’s 800th career NHL point.
Boston dropped to 10-2-0.
Matthews scored in the first period to give the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead.
Linus Ullmark made 26 saves in the Bruins loss.
