Maple Leafs rally past Oilers for 7-4 win Acciari, Tavares hit for doubles in win - Update to follow

In Toronto, John Tavares returned to the lineup for the Maple Leafs and hit for a double on Saturday night,  and Noel Acciari  scored the first and last goals of the game in a 7-4 win over the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Matt Murray made 24 saves in the Toronto win.

The Maple Leafs improved to 40-17-8.

After the Maple Leafs took the 1+0 led on Acciari’s first goal, Mattias Ekhorn and Evander Kane scored to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead coming out of the first period.

Connor McDavid added a goal early in the middle frame to give Edmonton a 3-1 advantage.

Toronto then reeled off four straight goals to take a 5-3 lead.

The Maple Leafs’ Mitchell Marner and William Nylander scored less than two minutes apart for a 3-3 tie.

Marner also had three assists in the win.

The Oilers dropped to 36-23-8 after seeing a two-game win streak ended.

Tavares then hit for his double to get the Leafs in front, 5-3.

Tavares’ second was off the power play with 65 seconds left in the middle frame.

Just past the midway point of the third stanza, Auston Matthews connected for his 30th of the campaign to give the Maple Leafs a 6-3 advantage.

Leon Draisaitl then scored off a power play to get the Oilers to within 6-4, Acciari hit an empty net for the 7-4 final.

Stuart Skinner made 31 saves in the Oilers loss.
