Maple Leafs go up 2-1 on Montreal

In Montreal, Morgan Rielly‘s second period goal gave the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 lead.

Jack Campbell made 14 of his 27 saves to make the advantage stand up.

“[Campbell] was unbelievable,” Toronto’s William Nylander said. “The work he put in before the playoffs started shows what it takes to compete at this level. He’s been unbelievable for us, a huge part of our team.”

The Maple Leafs now lead the series, 2-1.

Game 4 is in Montreal on Tuesday.

All three goals in the game came in the middle frame.

“Obviously the second period wasn’t great,” the Canadiens’  Shea Weber said. “I thought the first period was pretty even, but I thought they took the momentum and played better in the second. Ultimately that was the difference.”

Nick Suzuki‘s strike tied the game, 1-1.

William Nylander opened the scoring to give the Leafs a 1-0 lead.  He has scored in each of the three games in the series.

“He’s a dominant player when he’s on his game, and we need that from him,” Campbell said “He’s such a special player and he’s bringing it, so I think he’s getting the guys going. And other guys are stepping up and ultimately everyone’s doing the best they can, and Willie’s leading.”

Carey Price made 27 saves in the loss.

“I’m not frustrated at all, to be honest,” Price said. “I believe in these guys. These guys are talented guys, I see their shots in practice every day and I have no doubt that they have the ability to score a goal. They’re trying out there, I know they are, and it’s going to come. They’re playing pretty solid defense on their side, but we’re going to find a way to get through that. Their goaltender is playing well, we’re going to have to make it more difficult for him.”
