Maple Leafs Blow Another chance At Closing Out The Series, Losing 4-0 To Sens Leafs grinding their sticks a little harder this morning

In another attempt for the Maple Leafs to close out the series in the Battle of Ontario, once again it has looked like past demons have come back to haunt the Buds as they squander the chance to close out the first rounds losing 4-0 to the Senators.

In what looked to be a must-win game for Toronto as they would not want to go back to Ottawa for game 6, Fans and the team seemed to be calmer coming into this tilt looking to send Ottawa home.

Unfortunately, this was not the case.

In the first period, Ottawa would take control of the game right from puck drop gathering many chances on Leafs netminder Anthony Stolarz.

As many expected, Ottawa would be the more desperate team fighting for their playoff lives but no one would be able to break the ice in the first.

In the middle frame, it would only take just over three minutes for a team to get a goal on the board and that would be a seeing-eye shot from Thomas Chabot that would find a way to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead.

With the Leafs still dead in the water, they would not be able to answer back with Linus Ullmark shutting the door for the Sens.

In the final frame, the Leafs will still fall under the bright lights but would get a power play to try and find a way back into this close game.

Unfortunately, the man advantage would be a negative, as Dylan Cozens would score a shorthanded goal to extend the Ottawa Lead.

Auston Matthews would hit the post in what would’ve been a goal to cut the lead in half but Ullmark would have his best game of the series shutting down any opportunities.

With the Leafs’ net empty, Ottawa would add to the lead twice, with goals from Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle ending the game off with a 4-0 Sens win, heading back to Ottawa with all the momentum to try and force a game seven.

Leafs Defenseman Chris Tanev was asked after the loss about the Sens winning back-to-back games forcing a game 6.

“We’re up 3-2 in the series, I think we’re fine,” Tanev said.

With the loss, this makes the Leafs record in closeout games 1-13, which, yes, is pretty bad.

With another chance this Thursday, The Leafs will look to close out the series in game 6 in the Battle of Ontario.

Will the Buds be able to close it out, or will past demons haunt the team once again?
