Mallards run win streak to four

WICHITA, KS – Chris Francis scored what proved to be the game winning goal and added two assists as the Quad City Mallards (39-24-4) extended their winning streak to four games by defeating the host Wichita Thunder (18-41-6) 4-1 Tuesday night.

The third-place Mallards now trail the second-place Fort Wayne Komets by four points and now lead the fourth-place Kalamazoo Wings by six points in the Central Division standings.

The Mallards rebounded with back-to-back second period goals after Wichita’s Ryan Tesink tied the score at one from the doorstep at 1:27 of the second. Francis’ blast from the left wing circle snapped the deadlock at 3:19. Michael Parks cut across the goalmouth to stretch the Mallard lead to 3-1 at the 11:15 mark.

Mike Wilson’s empty net goal capped off the Mallard victory with just one minute and five second left in the third period.

The Mallards had first moved in front when Sam Warning backhanded the puck home from the slot at 16:17 of the first period.

The Mallards return home to meet the Alaska Aces Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
