Mallards roll past Wings 6-2

MOLINE, Ill. – Ryan McGrath scored two goals and added an assist and Tristan King also scored twice as the host Quad City Mallards (13-25-4) rolled past the Kalamazoo Wings (23-17-4) 6-2 Friday night.
McGrath gave the Mallards a lead they would not relinquish when he opened the scoring by finishing off a 2-on-1 rush at 4:05 of the second period. Gergo Nagy- who also had two assists- scored the first of three Mallard power play goals from close range to make it 2-0 at 7:14 of the second. After Eric Kattelus launched the first Kalamazoo goal home through traffic from the right wing boards at 16:33, Triston Grant replied with what proved to be the game winner from the doorstep just under two minutes later.
Grant’s goal was the first of four straight for the Mallards, who broke the game open by scoring three times in the third period. King scored the first two of that trio. King raced into the goalmouth off the left wing to stretch the lead to 4-1 at 3:32 and scored the Mallards’ fifth on a power play breakaway at 11:46. McGrath struck again from the left wing circle just 53 seconds later on another man advantage. J.T. Stenglein tipped in the second Wings goal in the final minute but by that time the result was no longer in doubt.
The Mallards return to action on home ice tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. The Mallards will welcome fans to Chick-fil-A Night tomorrow evening. The Mallards and Chick-fil-A have teamed for an array of giveways and surprises including a “cow drop” that will see a host of plush Chick-fil-A cows parachute from the TaxSlayer rafters. Every fan who catches or picks up one of those daredevil cows and brings it to the Chick-fil-A table on the main concourse will receive a gift card good for a free Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich.
