Mallards rally for win over Aces

MOLINE, Ill. – Jake Baker broke a 2-2 tie with just under six minutes left in the third period and the host Quad City Mallards (7-5-3) went on to defeat the Alaska Aces (5-10-2) 4-2 Friday night.

The Mallards were on the power play when Mike Monfredo set the stage for Baker’s game winner by tying the score with a blast from the blue line at 8:55 of the third. Tanner Eberle’s empty net goal clinched the Mallard victory with 34 seconds remaining.

The Mallards rallied after twice falling behind. The Aces’ Joe Perry swept the opening goal home from the slot at 11:11 of the first period. Alex Gudbranson beat the first period buzzer to tie the game. Gudbranson knotted the score at one from the side of the net with just three tenths of second left in the first.

Alaska grabbed a 2-1 lead when Landon Oslanski scored from the point on the power play at 8:05 of the second period but the Mallards would roar back in the third.
