MOLINE, Ill. – Sam Warning scored two goals and Steve Michalek made 34 saves as the host Quad City Mallards (9-7-3) defeated the Kalamazoo Wings (7-10-1) 3-1 Friday night.
Warning tied the game at one by burying Matt Neal’s centering pass at 6:34 of the first period- just 18 seconds after the Wings’ Tanner Sorenson raced down the slot to open the scoring. Ryan Tesink converted a cross-crease feed from Guillaume Gelinas (two assists) to give the Mallards a 2-1 lead at 14:37 of the first.
Warning’s solo rush stretched the gap to 3-1 at 4:45 of the second period. Michalek preserved the two goal Mallard advantage by making 13 third period saves.
The Mallards next play at home tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Blackout weekend continues as the Mallards again wear special edition (nearly) all black sweaters against the Cyclones. Those jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Genesis Health Services Foundation after tomorrow night’s game.
