Mallards edge Cyclones 2-1, grab share of first place

MOLINE, Ill. – Matt Neal and Olivier Archambault provided the Quad City Mallard goals and Brody Hoffman made 30 saves as the host Mallards (10-7-3) defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones (10-4-3) 2-1 Saturday night to move into a tie with the Cyclones atop the ECHL’s Midwest Division.

Neal’s tip-in gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead at 6:38 of the first period.

The Mallards were on the power play when Archambault doubled the advantage by burying Zach Pochiro’s cross-crease pass at 4:19 of the second period.

At 12:37 of the third period Cincinnati’s Zach Budish cut the gap to one goal from close range but Hoffman- who made 13 saves in the third period alone- and the Mallards held off the Cyclones the rest of the way.

The Mallards next play at home tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel. Fans can join the Mallards on the ice after the game for another B100 Skate with the Mallards.
