ESTERO, Fla.- Kevin Lynch scored the game-winner at 1:12 of overtime to seal a 2-1 win for the Florida Everblades over the Brampton Beast Saturday night at Germain Arena. The Everblades improve their unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-0-1).
After a scoreless first period, the Everblades got on the board first at 3:20 into the second frame . Rob Florentino broke the scoreless tie after tapping the puck into the back of the net pushing it past Jordan Ruby for the tally.
Just a couple of minutes, the Beast went on a 5-on-3 power play dropping the Everblades to only three defenders. At 7:12 the Beast tied the game up when Tim Bozan found an open Jeff Brown in the slot who riffled it past the shoulder of Anthony Peters tying the game up 1-1 heading into the third period.
Both the Everblades and Beast traded off scoring chances in the third period but Peters and Ruby put on a goaltender’s clinic turning aside for everything thrown their way to send the game to a 3-on-3 overtime session.
Just 1:12 into overtime Kevin Lynch (pictured above) accepted a pass in the slot and fired a shot on goal that was initially stopped by Ruby. However, the puck settled underneath Ruby’s left pad, and Lynch crashed the net and jammed the puck loose and into the net for the game-winning goal. The goal was Lynch’s second in overtime this season.
Anthony Peters gets the win stopping 29 of Brampton’s 30 shots, while also recording an assist on the game-winner. Despite a stellar effort, Ruby takes the loss allowing two goals on 26 shots.
The Everblades are back at it again next Friday Jan 22 against the Orlando Solar Bears. Game time is set at 7:30pm at Germain Arena.
