Lundqvist, Nash help Rangers defeat struggling Predators.

It seems to be the same story every game.

A common theme for the New York Rangers so far this year.

“Lundqvist brilliant in win”, “Henrik Lundqvist with another gem, Rangers get the win”.

Despite being outshot 25-7 after two periods, thanks again to Lundqvist, Rangers had a 1-0 lead on a Rick Nash goal.

“It was challenging but fun” Lundqvist commented after recording his second shutout of the season.

The Nashville Predators went into the game going scoreless their past two, and were met with the unfortunate matchup of facing the leader in save percentage and goals against average.

Lundqvist is now also tied for the league in wins with Washington Capitals net minder Braden Holtby.

After getting shutout again, the Predators are now scoreless in their past 213:47.

The game started with an onslaught of shot attempts by the Predators, finishing the period with 14 shots on net.

The Rangers would help that number by taking three penalties, one of them a double-minor by Derek Stepan with less than four minutes left in the period.

But like clockwork, the Rangers goalie stayed strong allowing no goals.

The second period was more of the same, with Nashville getting the majority of the scoring chances, however after a four-on-one led by Nash, the recently hot forward ripped a shot short side that beat Pekka Rinne.

The game was flipped on its head in the last period with the Rangers outshooting the Predators 12-6 and receiving four power plays.

The Rangers showed a lot of heart, coming out of the second intermission working hard to change the tilt of the game.

After getting outplayed for two straight periods the Rangers came out flying and received their ninth straight home victory at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers (16-3-2; 1st in Metropolitan) next game is Wednesday night against the Montreal Canadians (16-4-2; 1st in Atlantic) in NYC.

Carey Price returned last game after missing nine games. Montreal went 5-2-2 during that stretch under backup goalie Mike Condon. The Predators (11-6-3; 4th in Central) next game will be tomorrow at Buffalo against the Sabres (8-11-2; 8th in Atlantic).
