In Anaheim, the New York Rangers managed a complete game for 60 minutes and knocked off the Ducks, 4-1, on Saturday.
The Rangers took 20 shots in the third period and scored three times, and held the Ducks to three shots.
“We played a real good solid game,” Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant said. “We got a lot more rubber to the net than we had in the past, so I’m pretty happy with that.”
The Rangers fell behind in the second period when Isac Lundestrom scored for a 1-0 lead.
Mika Zibanejad tied it off a pass from below the goal fro Kaapo Kakko.
“It’s extra special when guys that don’t score often and do such a good job defensively, and may not get credit as much, get to score,” Zibanejad said.
Alexandar Georgiev made 13 saves in the Rangers win.
“We were just trying to look for the pretty play,” the Ducks’ Max Comtois said. “It’s hard in this League to get shots through, but we’ve got to find a way. You can’t win a hockey game with 14 shots.”
New York improved to 23-9-4.
“We played a pretty good game all through 60 minutes,” Zibanejad said. “That was a big difference.”
In the third period, the Rangers’ Ryan Lindgren hit for a pair of goal, including an empty-netter to seal the win.s.
Jarred Tinordi added a single marker in the final frame.
The Ducks dropped to 18-12-7.
Anthony Stolarz made 36 saves in the Anaheim loss.
“When he goes in the pipes, he gives us a chance to win,” Comtois said of Stolarz. “Again tonight, he made unbelievable saves, gave a chance to be in the hockey game and we just couldn’t bury a couple for him.”
