Lightning take 4-3 decision over Flyers PHN's Best Shots of the Game

PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers’ Claude Giroux scored his second goal of the game with nine seconds left in regulation on Thursday night to force extra time with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The goal tied the game, 3-3, before the Bolts took a 4-3 decision on skills.

Steven Stamkos had a goal and two points for Tampa.

“We got ourselves in a hole with a few careless mistakes at first and dug ourselves out,” Stamkos said. “We had a couple big penalty kills in the third, and then traded goals late. … We’re on a pretty good streak right now, so we’re just trying to find ways to win, which is nice.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves in the Tampa win.

Giroux and Travis Konecny  scored for the Flyers to give them a 2-0 lead.

“We stuck with it,” Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. “Didn’t like our start. … We hung around long enough to go into overtime and a shootout.”

Tampa’s Brayden Point scored in the shootout for the deciding goal.

Philadelphia dropped to 8-5-3.

“The first two periods, ‘Hartsy’ really got tested and gave us a chance to stay in the game,” Giroux said. “In the third, we’re trying to do our best to kind of control the game. I think our third was our best period. We were on our toes and just having that one point, it’s pretty big.”

Point and Mathieu Joseph  also scored for the Bolts in regulation.

Carter Hart made 29 saves in the Flyers loss.

“I wouldn’t play that any different,” Hart said. “Just kind of an equipment malfunction there. I’m on my post, I’m not leaning over too far. Those pads I’ve used four times, so they’re pretty new. Expect that from older sets, so it’s kind of fluky and something I’ll look into with my gear.”
