In Toronto, Brayden Point scored his second goal of the game at 10:27 of the fifth extra session Tuesday night in a 3-2 win for the Tampa Bay Lightning over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The two teams combined for 151 shots on goal.
“I don’t know how many guys have been in a game that long,” Point on NBC television. “But that was something for sure.”
The time of the game forced a delay in Game 1 between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes to Wednesday at 11 am local time.
“That’s only one win,” Point said. “They’re a great team, they’re working hard, we’ve got a lot of work to do.”
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 61 saves for the marathon win.
“It’s tiring for sure, but then it gets fun at some point,” Point said. “… It was an exciting one for sure. I though both teams had good chances.”
Oliver Bjorkstrand and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for the Blue Jackets.
Yanni Gourde also scored for the Bolts.
Joonas Korpisalo made 85 saves in the loss.
