In Elmont, a five-goal third period helped send the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 6-4 win over the Islanders on Friday night.
The win sets up a first round loss by the Toronto Maple Leafs to Tampa in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Steven Stamkos had a hat trick for the Lightning.
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 33 saves in the Tampa win.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored in the first period to give the Isles a 1-0 lead, Stamkos tied it, 1-1,
New York finished the season at 37-35-10.
Kieffer Bellows and Josh Bailey scored for New York for a 3-1 lead before the Tampa rally in the final frame.
Corey Perry and Ryan McDonagh got the Bolts even at 3-3.
Stamkos finished his hat trick with a a pair of goals for a 5-3 lead.
Zdeno Chara cut the lead to 5-4.
Brandon Hagel added an empty net goal for the 6-4 final.
Ilya Sorokin made 28 saves in the Islanders loss.
