Lightning rally past Kings

In Los Angeles, the Kings held a 2-0 lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday, but they could not hold the lead as

Steven Stamkos struck for two goals and the Lightning rallied for 4-2 win.

“We just saw them not too long ago, another tight game,” Stamkos said. “They came out strong both times, we get down 2-0, so we can’t afford to do that. But we stuck with it.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 32 saves in the win.

Tyler Toffoli and Alex Iafallo scored in the first and second periods, respectively.

“I can’t complain a lot about the effort,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “We’re happy with the way we started the game. Coming out of the break, I was concerned about whether we would be able to get our engine going, especially against that team, and we got it going. Didn’t get it to 3 when we had some really good chances, and that probably hurt us. Good teams make you pay for mistakes, and we made some tonight, and they made us pay.”

Erik Cernak and Tyler Johnson also scored for the Bolts.

Jonathan Quick made 20 saves in the loss.

“I thought we played pretty solid,” the Kings’ Anze Kopitar said. “Obviously we gave up some chances, but Quickie was there standing tall like he always is. We definitely miss a guy like Drew, and hopefully he’ll be back soon.”
