The Tampa Bay Lightning needed something, anything to avoid going to Boston down 0-2 to the Bruins.
What they got was a solid effort from their second line in a 4-2 win over the Bruins to
even up the series at 1-1.
Brayden Point struck for a goal and four points in the win.
“They rose to the occasion,” Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said after the game.
Point’s linemates, Ondrej Palat and Tyler Johnson, each scored a goal in the win.
The Bolts built a 3-1 lead in the game before Tory Krug scored late in the third period to make the final four minutes of the game a little more interesting.
“We turned some pucks over against a good team,” Brad Marchand said. “They’re going to capitalize at some point. We have to respect the game a little better.”
Yanni Gourde gave the Lighting an early 1-0 lead.
“We just had a tough night in Game 1,” Point said. “We came back tonight knowing that we had to have better.
“We played harder.”
Charlie McAvoy also scored for the Bruins.
“We knew they were going to bring their ‘A’ game,” McAvoy said. “You don’t want to ever let two slip away at home, so they played a better game. We had flashes of a good game. … but they threw it at us. If that’s their best, we play our best, we’ll be able to match that. It’s fine. Just like always, we’re going to take the good, assess it, make sure we can continue to do the good and fix the bad, and move onto Game 3 and get ready for it.”

Tuukka Rask made 27 saves in the loss.
“We know they’re a good team, but we’re a good team as well. This is going to be a tight series. I don’t think anybody doubts that. But we feel confident in ourselves. We didn’t play our best tonight and it’s still 3-2 with four minutes left.” — Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy
