In Tampa, the Buffalo Sabres Lightning chased each other for most of the game on Saturday. The chase resulted in a 3-3 tie in the third period until Nick Perbix broke the tie with his first career NHL goal to give the Lightning a 4-3 advantage.
Nikita Kucherov hit for an empty-net goal with 58 seconds left in the game for the 5-3 final.
Brian Elliott made 21 saves in the Tampa win.
The Lightning improved to 7-4-1.
The two teams traded goals into the third period, with the Sabres getting strikes from Zemgus Girgensons, Casey Mittelstadt, and Jeff Skinner.
The Sabres dropped to 7-5-0.
Tampa took a 1-0 lead in the first period off a strike from Nicholas Paul .
After Girgensons tied it, 1-1, Braden Point scored off the power play to give the Lighting a 2-1 lead.
Mittlestadt scored off the power play to tie it, 2-2, and Skinner put the Sabres up, 3-2 in the third.
Brandon Hagel hit for the tying goal at 7:40 of the third, setting up the Perbix heroics.
Eric Comrie made 25 saves in the Buffalo loss.
