Lightning down Oilers, 4-1, to climb into wild card race

In Tampa, there is a resurgence of sorts with the Lightning.

Ben Bishop made 20 saves for his fifth straight win, this time 4-1 over the Edmonton Oilers.

Tampa’s Triplets Line was the driving force in the win with a combined eight points.

Nikita Kucherov scored once , Ondrej Palat struck twice and Tyler Johnson had two assists.

“It’s fun [to have ‘The Triplets’ back together],” Palat said of the reunited line. “Once we get rolling, it’s a lot of fun. We have great chemistry together.”

Iiro Pakarinen scored the lone goal for the Oilers as Edmonton  fell to 32-20-8.

“We have got some work to do. We just don’t get enough opportunities to work on our game, so we have to fix it somehow. Individuals have to accept some responsibility for bringing their A game to the rink. Some key players have to pick it up,” Edmonton head coach Todd McLellan said after the loss.

Vladislav Namestnikov scored an empty-netter to seal it.

“[‘The Triplets’] are feeling it right now,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “It’s been really nice to have the same lineups over the last couple of weeks, and guys are just slotting into their roles.”

The Bolts are 5-0-2 in their seven games.

“We’re playing well,” Tampa’s Anton Stralman said. “We’ve cleaned up our game. We’re working hard offensively and defensively, and that’s why we’re back in the race. We have to keep it going.”

Laurent Brossoit made 24 stops in taking the loss.

“It would have been nice to get one more big save, especially on that third [goal],”  Brossoit said. “You have to tip your cap to the other team sometimes. There’s a lot of skill over there, and they showed it.”
